Terms and conditions

At FriendShips, we stress the importance of safety, so that you always have the best possible boating experience. Therefore, please ensure that you have read our terms and conditions before you book your boat.

Before you sail out into the canals, we will of course also make sure to explain to you more about the sailing rules and show you how the boat works, so that you feel comfortable and safe. To not miss any time on the water, we recommend you to arrive approximately 15 minutes before your reservation starts so that we have time to do the instructions.

General rental terms and conditions

• Starting and ending point is our boathouse at Trangravsvej on Christianshavn.

• Every rented hour consists of 55 minutes of sailing, from departure until you return the boat.

• Due to applicable laws, no more than 8 people are allowed in one boat, and never more than 2 people behind the steering wheel. If this is not complied with, the boat can sink as the worst-case scenario.

• Using and staying on our bridge, in our boathouse and boats is at your own risk.

• Life jackets are included in the price. They are available from 3 kilos and up. It is required to bring along life vests for everyone in the boat. While it is optional to wear them, we do recommend it.

• Bachelor or bachelorette parties or not allowed onboard our picnic boats.

• Swimming from the boats is not allowed.

• No type of fire is allowed onboard the boats, including barbecues, heaters, candles, fireworks, hookahs, water pipes etc.

• You are not allowed to use the boats for any commercial purpose without our consent.

• Large loudspeakers are not allowed. Music may not be so loud that you can hear it on land.

• Take care of the environment, don’t litter. Do not throw anything in the water, including cigarettes, champagne corks etc.

Requirements to the operator

• No license or previous experience is needed to sail our boats. The operator just needs to be at least 18 years old and must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. (Same rules as on land)

• The lessee needs to present a valid photo ID.

• Don’t leave the boat unattended. The operator needs to stay in the boat at all times.

• The operator needs to be accessible by phone during the entire trip.

Liability and compensation

• Lessee is liable for the boat, engine and equipment. If any of these are not returned in the same condition as received, the lessee can be held responsible under the general compensation rules in Danish law.

• Any violation of these terms and conditions is considered to be a negligent act.

• The lessee undertakes to compensate for any loss or damage incurred to the boat and equipment, but no more than the maximum of DKK 8,000.00.

• However, if the loss or damage has occurred as a result of a negligent act, reckless or intentional conduct and/or by violating these terms, the lessee is liable for the full claim.

• The lessee is obligated to reimburse expenses if a search of the boat is necessary. See also the section below regarding delays.

• If any damage to the boat or equipment is caused by others, it is the lessee’s responsibility to collect insurance information from the tortfeasor, as the lessee has full liability for any damages. The lessee must immediately inform FriendShips of damage to the boat.

• If the lessee damages other people’s property, the lessee is obliged to exchange information with the injured party. FriendShips is not liable for any damages done by the lessee to third party property.

• FriendShips reserves the right to disclose the lessee’s contact information, such as name, email address and phone number, to the injured party if the lessee does not do it. (Read how we process personal data here)

• Make sure to tidy up after yourself. If the boat is not returned as received, FriendShips can charge a cleaning fee of DKK 250.

Rules of sailing

• Abide by the sailing rules of the harbour, as informed by FriendShips’ staff upon arrival.

• Keep to the right as much as possible, and hold back for bigger boats.

• Show respect for other users of the harbour, and keep a safe distance.

• Respect yellow buoys and keep a safe distance, as they mark objects in the water or mean no trespassing.

• When sailing under a bridge, take the middle opening, and stop for red lights. Be extra careful at high tide as some bridges may become too low to sail under.

Delays

• In case of delay, immediately contact the FriendShips office by phone on +45 5383 7878.

• On busy days an additional fee of DKK 150 will be charged for every 15 minutes delay.

• If a delay is the cause of a search, the lessee will cover the costs.

Payment conditions

• VAT is included in all prices.

• When booking online, we accept the following cards: Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

• At the boathouse, we accept Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, MobilePay and DKK cash.

• The full price is charged upon booking. Any refunds are given according to the cancellation policy. Please see below.

• We accept no liability for errors in the booking system. Current prices can be found here.

Cancellation policy

• Cancellations must be sent to cancellation@friendships.dk, including information of the full name and booking ID.

• If bookings of three boats or less are cancelled at least 24 hours before the start time, the full prepaid amount will be refunded. For bookings cancelled less than 24 hours in advance, you will get no refund.

• For bookings of more than three boats, they need to be cancelled at least five days in advance to get a full refund.

• In case of conditions making sailing impossible, dangerous or in any way inadvisable, FriendShips reserves the right to and is obligated to cancel the reservation. This results in a full refund.

• Lessee is not entitled to receive any compensation if FriendShips needs to cancel a trip due to weather conditions, a boat is missing due to theft or other unforeseeable circumstances. Any prepaid amount will be refunded.

• FriendShips can at any time refuse or cancel a reservation if it is deemed irresponsible or if these terms and conditions are not being complied with. No refund will be given if it is less than 24 hours before the start of the booking.

Gift certificates

• Gift certificates are valid for 3 years from the day of purchase, unless otherwise stated.

• If the price of a service has increased upon redeeming the gift certificate, the consumer needs to pay the difference if it’s older than six months.

• If the gift certificate is issued less than six months before the price increase, it can be redeemed without any additional cost to the consumer.

• If you wish to exchange the gift certificate to cash, you will be charged a fee that will match our costs. Gift certificates purchased with European cards will be charged 5% of the value. Gift certificates purchased with non-European cards will be charged 6.5% of the value.

Limitation of liability

• FriendShips’ liability is limited to the amount paid by the lessor according to these terms and conditions. If no payment has been made, FriendShips’ liability is limited to a maximum of DKK 1,000.

• FriendShips assume no liability and cannot be held liable (including non-contractual disputes or claims) for any indirect or consequential damages or unforeseeable losses, damages or costs, loss of profits, loss of business, loss of opportunities, loss or corruption of data, without regard to whether FriendShips has been warned of the possibility of those losses or damages.

Governing law and jurisdiction

• These terms and conditions shall be governed by Danish law, with the exception however of Danish law and rules concerning choice of law to the extent that such rules would lead to the application of another country’s law.

• Any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with these terms and conditions, including disputes concerning the existence or validity of the agreement, shall be settled by the City Court of Copenhagen.
